Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound lean ground beef The star of this dish, ground beef, adds a moist and hearty texture.
  • 1 tbsp butter Rich butter infuses the dish with a mouthwatering aroma.
  • 1 small onion, sliced Sweet and aromatic, caramelizes beautifully.
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, sliced Adds a crisp texture and slightly sweet flavor.
  • 6 ounces mushrooms, chopped or sliced Lends an earthy umami kick.
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce Provides a rich complex flavor.
  • 2 tbsp onion soup mix (such as Lipton) Introduces a deep onion flavor.
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder Adds a hint of aroma and warmth.
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt Essential for enhancing flavor.
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper Adds a bit of heat and depth.
  • 4 pieces Hawaiian hoagie rolls Soft rolls complement the savory filling perfectly.
  • 4 slices provolone cheese Offers a rich melty finish.

Method

Brown the Ground Beef
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Brown the beef for 2-3 minutes per side until golden, then crumble and cook until no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a plate.
Sauté the Vegetables
  1. In the same skillet, melt the butter until bubbly. Add the sliced onion, bell pepper, and chopped mushrooms. Sauté for 6-7 minutes until the mushrooms turn golden and fragrant.
Combine and Season
  1. Add the browned ground beef back into the skillet with the vegetables. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, onion soup mix, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well and allow to meld for another 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat.
Prep for Broiling
  1. Preheat the broiler to high and position the top rack a few inches from the heat source. Divide the meat mixture between the hoagie rolls and top with provolone cheese.
Broil to Melt
  1. Place the assembled rolls on a broiler-safe pan and broil for 30 seconds to 1 minute until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Watch closely to prevent burning.
Serve and Enjoy!
  1. Remove sandwiches from the oven and enjoy immediately while the cheese is gooey and the filling is warm.

Notes

For a spicy kick, add jalapeños or hot sauce to the meat mixture. Substitute cheese options for variety. Experiment with different vegetables for enhanced flavor.
