Preparation
- Begin your compote by placing the blueberries, lemon juice, and caster sugar into a small pot. Gently stir the mixture to ensure that the sugar and lemon juice coat all the berries evenly.
- Turn on the heat to low or medium-low. This will allow the berries to begin releasing their juices gradually, creating a luscious syrup.
- Let the mixture simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 10 to 15 minutes. The berries will soften, and you’ll notice the juices thickening into a beautiful compote.
- Once the blueberries have softened and the compote has thickened to your desired consistency, remove it from the heat. Transfer the mixture into a clean jar or bowl and allow it to cool before storing it in the fridge.
Notes
If you prefer a sweeter compote, feel free to add more caster sugar. For a smoother texture, you can blend the compote after cooking. Consider adding a pinch of cinnamon or a splash of vanilla extract for additional flavor.
