For the Topping
  • 8 ounces Cool Whip Light and airy topping.
  • 1 quart strawberries Fresh strawberries for topping.
  • 1 pint blueberries Provides contrast in flavor and color.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the French vanilla cake mix, water, eggs, and canola oil. Use a whisk or mixer to blend these ingredients until you achieve a smooth batter according to the package directions.
  2. Preheat your oven and pour the batter into a greased cake pan. Bake according to the package instructions, checking for doneness with a toothpick inserted in the center.
  3. Allow the cake to cool for 15-20 minutes.
Adding the Jello
  1. While the cake cools, mix the strawberry Jello powder with 1 cup of boiling water in a large measuring cup. Stir until completely dissolved, then add in 1/2 cup of cold water.
  2. Poke holes all over the top of the cooled cake with a fork or the handle of a wooden spoon.
  3. Pour the Jello mixture over the cake slowly, ensuring it seeps into the holes.
Finishing Touches
  1. Once the cake is fully cooled, spread the Cool Whip evenly over the top.
  2. Rinse and dry the strawberries and blueberries. Arrange the blueberries in neat rows, then slice the strawberries lengthwise and arrange them in rows to create stripes.
  3. Refrigerate the decorated cake for at least 2 hours before serving.
  4. Slice and serve the cake, revealing its colorful layers.

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. You can also add a tablespoon of vanilla extract to the cake batter for extra flavor.
